BIAFF 2020 Closing Ceremony and Awards

 

BIAFF Film festival closing ceremony took place on 25 November, at Georgian Film Academy in Tbilisi. Due to current Pandemic situation, ceremony was held with very limited guests (jury, award winners etc.) and it was broadcasted in LIVE on BIAFF’s Facebook page.

 

International Jury awarded prizes in Four competition sections – International Feature Films, Doc Films and Short Films section and special section – COVIDEO (short films shoot during Pandemic times).

 

BIAFF 2020 international competition section’s Jury consisting of five members – Lana Ghoghoberidze – Head of Jury (Georgia), Carmen Grey (Germany), Layth Abdulamir (France), Nika Abramishvili (Georgia), George Ovashvili (Georgia) awarded the following prizes:

 

  • Grand Prix – “There is no Evil”, Mohammad Rasoulof, Germany/Iran/Czech Republic, 2020
  • Best Film Director – “Yellow Cat”, Adilkhan Yerzhanov, Kazakhstan/France, 2020
  • Best Actress – Marija Skaricic in film “Mare”, Andreas Staka, Switzerland/Croatia, 2020
  • Best Actor – Albrecht Schuch & Welket Bungué in film “Berlin Alexanderplatz“, Burhan Qurbani, Germany / Netherlands, 2020
  • Jury Special Prize – “Person N2”, Nino Basilia, Georgia/Germany, 2020

 

BIAFF 2020 Georgia Film Critics Jury consisting of - Lela Ochiauri (Chairwoman), Theo Khatiashvili, Archil Shubashvili - revealed the prize for best film by film critics:

 

  • Best film – “In Between Dying”, Hilal Baydarov, Azerbaijan/USA/Mexico, 2020

 

 

BIAFF 2020 Documentary Films international competition section’s Jury consisting of five members - Nino Kirtadze (France/Georgia) - Head of Jury, Krzysztof Gierat (Poland), Iryna Romanchenko (Ukraine), Mikheil kvirikadze (Georgia), awarded the following prizes:

 

  • The Best Doc film - “The Whale from Lorino”, Maciej Cuske, Poland, 2019
  • Special Mentions - “Disqualified”, Hamza Ouni, Tunisia, France, Qatar, 2020

 

BIAFF 2020 Short Film competition section’s Jury consisting of - Otar Litanishvili (Georgia - Head of Jury), Zura Maghalashvili (Georgia)and Davit Evgenidze (Georgia) awarded the following prizes:

 

  • The Best Short film – “Lolo”, Michał Piotrowski, Poland, 2020
  • Jury Special Mentions - “Perpetual Night”, Pedro Peralta, Portugal, 2020  &  “The Kites”, Seyed Payam Hosseini, Iran, 2020

 

 

BIAFF 2020 COVIDEO Short Film competition section’s Jury consisting of - Otar Litanishvili (Head of Jury, Georgia), Zura Maghalashvili (Georgia)and Davit Evgenidze (Georgia) awarded the following prizes:

 

  • The Best film – “1412”, Anna Japaridze, Georgia; 2020
  • Jury Special Mentions - “The Invitation”, Meltem Cemiloglu, Turkey, 2020 &  “Wine for mama – quarantine”, Valerijs Olehno, Latvia; 2020
  • BIAFF audience prize – “An Apparition” by Nagaraju,  India, 2020; BIAFF audience prize for Georgian Film“20XX”, Giorgi Qasrashvili, Georgia, 2020

 

 

BIAFF 2020 Life time Achievement awards for contribution to cinema was granted to:

  • Nana Jorjadze (Georgia)
  • Merab Kokochashvili (Georgia)
  • Dato Evgenidze (Georgia)

 

 

BIAFF festival director (Giorgi Gogiberidze) and manager (Zviad Eliziani) were awarded with a special prize for contribution to Georgian Cinema issued by Georgian Film Academy.
