Andrzej Wajda
Dear friends from afar, yet so near for us Batumi.
It is terribly sad that I cannot be with you this evening, as my film Katyń will be shown, as it is also a part of my life.
My father, captain Jakub Wajda is among Polish officers murdered by NKWD in Kharkov and has been buried there.
Katyń is not only a terrible crime on prisoners of war, but also a very consequent lie which attributed this act to Germans.
I am happy that I have lived through times in which this film could be shown in an independent Georgia.
Unfortunately now I have to dedicate my whole time to a new film Tatarak, which is based on a story written by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. This will be my third adaptation, the first two being Wood Birch and The Young Ladies from Wilko.
Dear friends, I hope you will recognize this as an explanation of my absence.
Yours
