The project ““BIAFF (Batumi International Art-House Film Festival) Preparation Support and Cinema popularization”focuses is to support of BIAFF organization in terms of - improved informational campaign in preparation period, enhanced professional skills / competences of BIAFF staff and participant students (involved in organizational of festival as volunteers), creation of a community (or more exactly formation of organized club) of cinema lovers via free film screenings, improved technical capacity of BIAFF (through purchasing LCD projector), popularization the modern cinematography (especially, art-house and non-commercial cinema) in Batumi (Adjara) as well all Georgia which will increase interest to films and festival.
The project location is – Batumi (Georgia).
Under the project it is planned the following activities:
§ Film Screenings – during the project period will be arranged the screenings of films from various countries (mainly non-commercial, Art-house / independent cinema) which will be followed by discussion. Target audience – students majoring in Art /cinema, people interested in cinema who are involved also in cultural/art events organization in Batumi.
§ Workshops/seminars before film festival – the target audience of seminars are students majoring in film/making, young film makers, BIAFF staff etc. Here is list of seminars (4-5 hours daily): 1. 2 days seminar about film making. Theoretical trainings combined with practical cases etc. 2. Giorgi Gvkaharia - 2 days seminar on tendencies in modern Iranian Independent cinema. 3. Lasha Bakradze (film Critic) - 2 days seminar on modern German cinema 4. Manana Kordzaia (Art / Music specialist) – one day seminar on topic - Music in cinema: the importance of music in cinema, using of various sounds in films, Current trends etc. 5. Lali Pertenava (Art specialist)– two day seminar about modern photography. 6. Nina Gogoladze- 3 days seminar in professional skills development for film makers/artists etc. 7. One day roundtable discussion on the following topics – importance of film festivals, art and music festivals for region/country in terms of development of cultural life and creation of civil society. Will be discussed the necessity of government support, examples form other countries how festivals are developing, further steps etc. BIAFF, IFASC, Georgian Film Centre, Ministry of Culture of Adjara AR, Batumi city hall, Adjara local government etc. Discussion involves presentation of outlines on how festivals are supported in European countries, presentation of success stories locally, identifying the ways of better cooperation of government, NGO and educational centers for joint efforts in developing/promoting art/cultural events.
§ Support the formation of Young Film Maker’s Section of BIAFF - the project will provide support to establishment of special section at BIAFF – “Young Film Makers’ competition section” (which will be added to BIAFF program this year). Under the proposed project 15 young film makers from Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan will be provided the support for accommodation expenses. Adding of this section will bring the young film makers from various countries together and facilitate the exchange of ideas, experience, plan joint project etc. § Newspaper Inserts – Will be done 8 two-page newspaper inserts in independent local newspaper BATUMELEBI. The topic of articles – modern cinema, ongoing tendencies in modern cinema, modern Art/Culture, interviews with Georgian film makers (already established and young ones) discussing the existing situation, problems etc. faced by cinema industry in Georgia. Informational articles about the cinema of those countries the films from which will be presented at BIAFF 2009 (Ex: Turkey, Iran, Germany, Eastern Europe etc.) § Formation of “Batumi Cinema Club” at Batumi Art-House Argani – the given project will be helpful to establish Batumi cinema club under BIAFF. The film screenings organized under the given project will help to create a community of cinema/art lovers in Batumi (in more organized way) who will become the cinema club members, more experience will be gained through this project (organization of screenings, various seminars etc.), technical basis of BIAFF will be improved (LCD projector purchased by this project ) - all of these in combination with Existence of good collection of films (from BIAFF previous years programs, granted by other organizations / individuals to us etc.), Year-round functioning BIAFF office will create good foundation for establishment of BATUMI CINEMA CLUB.
